Supporting employees with mental health needs is one of the most complex responsibilities HR professionals and workplace leaders face today. Advanced Workplace Accommodation: Mental Health & RTW provides a practical and legally grounded framework for managing mental-health–related accommodation requests, designing effective return-to-work (RTW) plans, and meeting human rights and occupational health obligations.
This course offers a deep dive into the duty to accommodate under the Human Rights Code, OHSA, WSIA/WSIB, privacy laws, and employer/employee responsibilities. Participants will learn how to assess functional limitations, create individualized accommodation plans, communicate effectively with employees and managers, and collaborate with healthcare providers. The training also addresses common mental health conditions, stigma, disclosure challenges, undue hardship, and the important distinctions between a RTW plan and an accommodation plan.
Through real-world scenarios and advanced case studies, attendees will develop confidence in navigating legal risk, preventing confidentiality breaches, managing resistance from managers and coworkers, and balancing organizational realities with employee well-being. This course equips HR teams with actionable strategies to implement fair, defensible, and psychologically safe accommodation processes.
