Increased income requirements could reduce the number of international students in Canada

The mandatory income requirement for international students in Canada is set to increase, potentially reducing the number of students but also providing more transparency. Immigration Minister Marc Miller has declared that students must show they have access to $20,635, a significant increase from the previous requirement of $10,000. Jawad Chowdhury from the Memorial University student union has voiced concerns that the total cost, exceeding $80,000 for a four-year program, may be too steep for many. Chowdhury notes that rental and tuition costs have significantly increased in recent years. Starting next year, international students will be restricted to working a maximum of 20 hours per week during their studies. Chowdhury advocates for the creation of more full-time work opportunities for international students to encourage them to stay in Canada. #International_students, #Study_in_Canada, #Study_permits
