Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued a program delivery update affecting how work experience is assessed under the permanent residence pathways for Hong Kong residents.
The update relates specifically to Stream B applicants and amends the instructions used by IRCC officers when assessing eligibility under the applicable public policy.
Updated Work Experience Requirements for Stream B
Under the amended instructions, a Stream B principal applicant must now meet both of the following criteria:
- Have accumulated at least 1,560 hours of authorized Canadian work experience through paid full-time or part-time work at any skill level within the three years before the permanent residence application was received; and
- Have held a Canadian work permit for a minimum of one year within the three years before the permanent residence application was received.
These requirements apply to the assessment of eligibility under the public policy governing the permanent residence pathways for Hong Kong residents.
Guidance for Stakeholders and Practitioners
IRCC notes that this information forms part of the policy, procedures, and guidance used by IRCC staff. It has been posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.
The update clarifies how officers are to calculate and assess qualifying Canadian work experience for Stream B applicants when reviewing permanent residence applications under this pathway.
