Starting February 3, 2026, Immigration New Brunswick implemented significant changes across multiple immigration pathways, including the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), the New Brunswick Skilled Worker stream, and Express Entry–aligned streams.

Suspension of Employer Designation Applications

Immigration New Brunswick has suspended new employer designation applications under the Atlantic Immigration Program. This suspension coincides with broader reforms to how AIP endorsement applications are managed.

Introduction of a Candidate Pool System

The province is introducing a candidate pool system for AIP endorsement applications. Under this new approach:

  • Selections will be made monthly
  • Priority will be given based on provincial labour market needs
  • Applications will no longer be processed strictly in chronological order

Applications submitted to the pool will remain valid for 365 days. Candidates who are not selected within that timeframe must resubmit their applications in full.

Occupational Restrictions Across Immigration Streams

At the same time, significant occupational restrictions have been introduced under both the New Brunswick Skilled Worker and Express Entry streams. These restrictions particularly affect the accommodation and food services sector.

Context of the Changes

These measures reflect New Brunswick’s response to nationwide reductions in immigration and are intended to better align newcomer selection with the province’s evolving labour market and economic priorities.
