Summary

A growing number of Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) refusals are being issued to 2024 graduates, many stemming from language test results that were not uploaded due to gaps in the IRCC online portal prompts. Compounding the issue, lengthy IRCC processing times mean many of these refusals are arriving after the 180-day PGWP eligibility window has already closed.
This free seminar, led by immigration lawyers Andrew Carvajal and Miho Kitamura, is designed for immigration lawyers, RCICs, and RISIAs advising affected international students. The session covers why these PGWP refusals are occurring, the legal and procedural challenges created by the 180-day limitation period, reconsideration requests and best practices, judicial review strategies and timelines, the potential role of Temporary Resident Permits (TRPs), and additional status considerations for affected applicants.
Practitioners will also learn what steps PGWP applicants with pending applications can take now to reduce risk and preserve their options before a refusal is issued.
