Ontario Paralegal CPD Requirements

Ontario-licensed paralegals are required by the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) to complete 12 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in each calendar year in order to maintain their license in good standing.

These CPD requirements are broken down as follows:

Professionalism CPD (3 hours – must be accredited)

  • At least 3 hours must be in Professionalism
  • At least 1 hour must be in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
  • These hours must be accredited by the Law Society of Ontario

Substantive CPD (up to 9 hours)

  • Up to 9 hours may be in Substantive law or practice management
  • These hours do not need to be accredited, but must be relevant to your legal practice

All CPD hours must be completed by December 31 of each year.
Paralegals must report their completed CPD hours to the Law Society of Ontario by March 31 of the following year.

It is important to star up to date with the requirements directed by the LSO. You can see them here.
