Quebec’s Ministry of Immigration (MIFI) has reached its maximum quota for parent, grandparent, and certain family reunification sponsorships for the period from June 26, 2024, to June 25, 2026. This suspension is due to high demand and limited capacity. In recent years, competition for family sponsorship spots has steadily increased. Last year’s quota was also filled quickly, reflecting a growing interest among Quebec residents to reunite with loved ones from abroad.
No new applications in these categories will be accepted until after June 25, 2026. Any submissions received after the limit will be returned, and fees refunded.
For families impacted by this suspension, there are still options to explore. Some may consider federal programs, such as the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) administered by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which operates under a separate system from Quebec’s. Consulting an authorized immigration advisor or lawyer can help families identify the best pathway forward based on their specific situation and eligibility.
MIFI continues to accept sponsorship applications for minor dependent children and adult dependent children with physical or mental health conditions during this period.
