The federal government released a special employment prospects report about how the pandemic has affected the labour force in each province and territory. These are some of the findings from Alberta.

While the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic were the primary factor contributing to the appearance of occupations on this list, other dynamics may have been involved in some cases.

Occupations were included in the report based upon analysis of Labour Force Survey and administrative data (employment insurance claims and job postings) and qualitative analysis of labor market events and occupational research.

Impacted Occupations:

1. Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
2. Employment insurance, immigration, border services and revenue officers (NOC 1228)
3. Information systems analysts and consultants (NOC 2171)
4. Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
5. Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
6. Construction inspectors (NOC 2264)
7. Nursing co-ordinators and supervisors (NOC 3011)
8. Pharmacists (NOC 3131)
9. Family, marriage and other related counselors (NOC 4153)
10. Health policy researchers, consultants and program officers (NOC 4165)
11. Social and community service workers (NOC 4212)
12. Contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers and servicers (NOC 7205)

All of these occupations fall into the “skilled work” category.
