On July 23, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted the first category-based Express Entry draw targeting skilled military recruits. IRCC issued only four Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in round #430, the smallest Express Entry round in the system’s history. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for this round was set at 368 points. The tie-breaking rule applied to profiles submitted before June 2, 2026, at 20:11:26 UTC. As of July 19, 2026, there were 231,533 profiles in the Express Entry pool. In 2026, Canada has issued 104,616 invitations under Express Entry.
Category background
The Skilled Military Recruits category was introduced in February 2026 but had not been used in a draw until this round. It targets foreign nationals serving in a recognized military abroad who have secured a qualifying job offer with the Canadian Armed Forces. Eligible candidates generally need at least 10 years of continuous service in a recognized foreign military, a guaranteed CAF job offer of at least 3 years, and a post-secondary credential of 2 years or more, assessed through an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
Practitioner implications
The 368 point cutoff is unusually low compared to other 2026 category-based draws such as Canadian Experience Class (507 to 518) and healthcare and social services (462 to 476), reflecting the narrow, low-volume nature of this pathway rather than a broadly accessible CRS threshold. Practitioners with clients who have foreign military backgrounds and CAF job offers should confirm eligibility carefully against the category’s specific criteria, since a competitive CRS score alone does not establish eligibility for this stream. Given the small invitation volume, this category is likely to remain a narrow, intermittent tool rather than a regular fixture of the Express Entry calendar, and eligible clients should keep their profiles updated and monitor for a possible expanded “Version 2” of the category later in 2026.
