Canada Immigration Program Updates

Four provinces issued new invitations under their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) between September 24 and October 8, 2026. Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Prince Edward Island together invited nearly 1,200 candidates, with draws targeting priority sectors, rural communities, in demand occupations and local graduates. Here is what practitioners need to know about each round.

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP): 476 Invitations

On October 7, 2026, Alberta released the results of its most recent Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) draws, totalling 476 invitations across four rounds:

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP): 340 Invitations in Draw #281

On October 8, 2026, Manitoba held Expression of Interest draw #281 under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP), inviting 340 candidates under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream:

  • Occupation specific selection: 257 invitations
  • Skilled Worker pathway: 83 invitations

In this round, 103 invitations went to candidates with a valid Express Entry profile number and a job seeker validation code. In 2026, the MPNP has invited 7,223 candidates, 2,150 of whom held Express Entry profiles. Details are available on the Immigrate Manitoba draw notice.

Prince Edward Island PNP (PEI PNP): 90 Invitations in an Unscheduled Draw

On October 7, 2026, Prince Edward Island held an unscheduled invitation round under the PEI PNP, issuing 90 invitations to apply (ITAs) to workers in priority sectors based on economic impact in PEI. The province prioritized candidates with employment offers from PEI based organizations and international graduates of recognized institutions, including UPEI, Holland College and Collège de l’Île.

PEI has now invited 1,319 candidates in 2026. The next PEI PNP draw is scheduled for October 15, 2026. See the PEI Expression of Interest draws page.

What This Means for Practitioners

Across all four provinces, selection continues to favour candidates tied to specific labour shortages: health care, construction, childcare, aviation and rural communities in particular. Clients with provincial job offers, local credentials or occupations on priority lists remain the strongest candidates, and accurate NOC classification at the Expression of Interest stage is increasingly decisive.
