The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) launched a new online tool on June 17, 2026, designed to help prospective immigrants identify which AAIP streams they may be eligible for before creating a Worker Expression of Interest profile. The tool, called the Eligibility Explorer, is now live and accessible through the AAIP portal.
What the Eligibility Explorer Does
The Eligibility Explorer is an interactive self-assessment that walks users through a series of questions about their employment history, education, and language skills. Based on their responses, the tool displays the specific AAIP streams for which they may qualify. The assessment takes only a few minutes to complete and does not save any personal data.
Once a user identifies streams of potential eligibility, they can proceed directly to create their official EOI profile through the AAIP portal.
Why This Matters for Practitioners
For RCICs and immigration lawyers advising clients on Alberta pathways, the Eligibility Explorer adds a transparent pre-screening step to the intake workflow. Clients can use the tool to orient themselves before a consultation, and practitioners can point clients toward it as a first step in confirming stream fit prior to submitting a Worker EOI and paying the $135 WEOI fee introduced in April 2026.
The tool is particularly relevant given the breadth of AAIP’s current worker stream offerings, which include the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Alberta Express Entry Stream (with dedicated pathways for healthcare professionals, technology workers, and police occupations), the Rural Renewal Stream, and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream. With 2026 draws prioritizing occupations in healthcare, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, and agriculture, helping clients identify the right stream early reduces the risk of misaligned submissions and wasted application costs.
The Eligibility Explorer does not replace a full eligibility assessment or constitute a guarantee of invitation. Practitioners should continue to conduct independent verification of all AAIP stream criteria before advising clients to proceed with a WEOI submission.
