CPD Professional Development Checklist

Still need to complete your Ontario paralegal CPD hours for 2026? With the December 31, 2026 deadline approaching, now is the time to make sure you’ve met your annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

The good news is that you don’t have to wait for a live webinar to complete your remaining hours. Ontario paralegals can complete their CPD requirements through eligible online courses, including recorded programs that allow you to learn on your own schedule.

Whether you’re missing a few Substantive hours, need accredited Professionalism or EDI hours, or still have most of your annual requirements outstanding, LPEN offers flexible options to help you finish before the deadline.

What Are the Ontario Paralegal CPD Requirements for 2026?

Under the Law Society of Ontario’s CPD requirements, licensed paralegals who are subject to the annual requirement must complete 12 CPD hours each calendar year, including:

  • 12 total CPD hours
  • 3 accredited Professionalism hours
  • 1 Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) hour, included within the 3 Professionalism hours
  • At least 9 additional hours of eligible CPD activities

All required CPD hours must be completed by December 31, 2026, and reported to the Law Society of Ontario by March 31, 2027.

If you’re unsure how many hours you have remaining, review your completed courses and confirm that you’ve satisfied the Professionalism and EDI requirements.

Can You Complete Ontario Paralegal CPD Hours Online?

Yes. Recorded CPD courses are a convenient option for Ontario paralegals who need to complete their hours before December 31.

Unlike live webinars, recorded courses allow you to complete your professional development when it works best for you.

With recorded programs, you can:

  • Watch courses from home or your office.
  • Complete your CPD hours at your own pace.
  • Choose courses based on the specific hours you still need.
  • Access practical legal education without waiting for another live session.
  • Obtain certificates of completion for your records.

LPEN offers a range of online Ontario paralegal CPD courses, including recorded programs covering Small Claims Court, the Landlord and Tenant Board, provincial offences, tribunal advocacy, and practice management.

Need Professionalism or EDI Hours Before December 31?

One of the most important things to check before the end of the year is whether you’ve completed your required Professionalism and EDI hours.

Ontario paralegals must complete at least 3 accredited Professionalism hours annually, including 1 EDI hour.

If you’ve already completed your Substantive hours but are missing Professionalism or EDI hours, you’ll need to select courses that specifically qualify for those categories.

LPEN identifies the CPD accreditation associated with its courses, making it easier to find programs that address your remaining requirements.

For example, LPEN’s Trauma-Informed Advocacy: Ethical Advocacy, Client Dignity, and Effective Practice provides 1 accredited EDI hour and is available as part of the 2026 Ontario Paralegal Pass.

You can review the available courses and their accreditation details on LPEN’s Ontario Paralegal CPD page.

Still Need All 12 CPD Hours? Consider the Ontario Paralegal Pass

If you have several hours outstanding, purchasing courses individually may not be the most convenient option.

LPEN’s 2026 Ontario Paralegal Pass includes four practical courses covering important areas of Ontario paralegal practice:

  • Successful Advocacy at the Landlord and Tenant Board
  • Defamation in Small Claims Court
  • Trauma-Informed Advocacy: Ethical Advocacy, Client Dignity, and Effective Practice
  • Highway Traffic Act Defence: From Minor Infractions to Serious Charges

Together, these courses provide 14 CPD hours, including 4.5 Professionalism hours and 1 EDI hour.

The pass is designed to cover the Law Society of Ontario’s annual CPD requirements in one purchase.

Courses are available online, with recordings provided following the live presentations.
